Accumulating pasture during Autumn to extend the grazing season in pasture‐based dairy systems

چکیده

Abstract A longer grazing season can lower the costs of pasture‐based dairy production. Accumulating herbage during autumn increases mass available for in late and following spring but results higher pre‐grazing (PGHM). This could affect sward nutritive value milk The effects accumulating on length season, value, production supply (opening) were examined at systems scale this study. dataset was 60 from comparisons conducted between 2001 2018 with spring‐calving herds (mean stocking rate 2.4 cows ha −1 ) Solohead Research Farm, Ireland. Mineral Concentrations of Annual Cool Season Pasture Forages in North Florida during the Winter-Spring Grazing Season: II. Trace Minerals

Concentrations of selected trace minerals (Cu, Fe, Zn, Mn, Co, Se) were determined from annual cool-season grass pasture forages over four consecutive winter-spring grazing seasons (2001-2005). Twice monthly forage samples were taken from eight experimental pastures used in beef cattle grazing trials. Two, 2-yr experiments were conducted; animal and pasture data were reported previously. Each e...

Mineral Concentrations of Cool-Season Pasture Forages in North Florida during the Winter-Spring Grazing Season: I. Macro Minerals

Concentrations of selected macro minerals (Ca, P, Na, K, and Mg) were determined from coolseason annual grass pasture forages over four consecutive late fall-winter-spring grazing seasons (2001-2005). Forage samples were taken from eight experimental pastures used in beef cattle grazing trials. Two, 2-yr experiments were conducted; animal and pasture data were reported previously (Myer and Blou...

Productive and metabolic response to two levels of corn silage supplementation in grazing dairy cows in early lactation during autumn

Corn (Zea mays L.) silage (CS) is a nutritious food that can be used as a supplement in dairy cows. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of supplementation with two amounts of CS on milk production and composition, live weight and body condition, as well as on some blood indicators for energy and protein metabolism on dairy cows in early lactation and grazing low mass pasture durin...

Milk production of fall-calving dairy cows during summer grazing of grass or grass-clover pasture.

Milk production of fall-calving dairy cows during subsequent summer grazing was evaluated in two consecutive years using a total of 80 mid- to late-lactation Holsteins. Cows calved during September and October and grazed from April to August in the following year. In yr 1, 27 cows grazed a native grass pasture and 13 cows grazed a native grass-clover mixed pasture containing 26% red clover and ...

Unexpected Decrease in Milk Production after Fenbendazole Treatment of Dairy Cows during Early Grazing Season

Gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) infection can impair milk production (MP) in dairy cows. To investigate whether MP would be optimized by spring targeted-selective anthelmintic treatment in grazing cows, we assessed (1) the effect on MP of an anthelmintic treatment applied 1.5 to 2 months after turn-out, and (2) herd and individual indicators associated with the post-treatment MP response. A ra...
